Knowledge

Colossians 1:9-17

9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

When we are a follower of Christ it is important that we have knowledge of God's word. We should immerse ourselves in the word of God. A knowledge of God and his ways can keep a Christian from sin. It is important that we keep a witness. Its impossible to be perfect, there was only one man who was ever perfect and that was my Lord and Saviour, the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, but it is important that as Christians we demonstrate Gods grace and love through our actions.

Other than being a witness, its important to have knowledge of God. Israel, God's covenant nation was was destroyed because, "the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land." (Excerpt from Hosea 4:1)

It is true that God is a merciful God, but we must also realize that he is a just and jealous God. Hosea 4:6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." Wow. He gives us the opportunity to seek the knowledge of God, do we take advantage of that. When we get to Heaven will we hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant"? Or will we hear, "Why didn't you seek, and spread the knowledge of me?"

God's Word is the knowledge for all of life and provides direction that is clear and useful for each day. By consulting your Bible and and praying for direction your are gaining knowledge about God that the Holy Spirit can use in your life.

A verse worthy of noting is Proverbs 20:15 "There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." Let us make sure we seek and spread the knowledge of God everyday.

I had never really read that first passage before from Col., but what a powerful and encouraging passage. My mom sat down with us yesterday was reading from Romans 12, which basically talks about "turning the other cheek" and giving everything you have to and for the Lord. Verses 10-12 reminded me of what we were discussing and what that chapter says. It's very encouraging to know we are spreading the word of a just and jealous God. We serve one God, not like the Romans and heathens served many, because our God is the one true God. It is most important that we through love share the knowledge of him to everyone we meet. People should be able to see Jesus in us, and unfortunately that is hard to recognize in Christians today. In fact the other day my Dad was talking about the people at his work, of which most are Christians, but he said you can't tell just by talking to them. Are they not obeying what this says right here? Because they're not spreading the knowledge of God with their lives?

Christians need to draw back to God and start reading the Word so they can act like Jesus and so people will see Jesus.

Ok... sorry... getting lengthy, but you have a good point. :) I definitely agree.

Great post Jared. It makes me think of some verses I've been memorizing in James four. "v.6-But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: 'God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. v.7-Therefore submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. v.8-Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts you double-minded." Does one of those verses look familiar? I was fascinated to discover the context of James 4:7, the one your Pappy taught me as a child and Daddy and I have taught you.

God wants all of us, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As He points out areas of sin in our lives, it's our job to submit, repent, and do His will.

I once heard someone say something like this, "When you become a Christian, you are automatically a witness for Christ. What type of a witness will you be?"

As we hide God's Word in our hearts, the Holy Spirit will be able to show us what needs to change. Oh your dear old mom has a way to go. I'm thankful for a Lord and Savior who is perfect in all His ways.

Much love,
Mom

Hi Jared,
I am Jocelyn's older sister.
This is a great post! I loved how you took all that scripture and based your thoughts on it. A lot of times people just twist scripture to back it up to their point. You did the opposite.
Great article!
Prayers and Blessings,

Hello, thanks for stopping by. Nice to hear from you. I understand about the whole baseball thing. A few years ago when I played softball it was non-stop going and going to practices!

I hope you find some time to sit down and update. : )
